A tarot-inspired, multi-player storytelling card game

VEIL is a storytelling card game set in the late Victorian Era. Players participate in a Spiritualist seance, interpreting major moments of a Spirit’s life through custom tarot-inspired cards.

As a co-designer on VEIL, I helped pitch, research, design, and implement content and mechanics that marry the somewhat serious tone and aesthetics of the Victorian era with the mischievous fun of a seance in this tarot inspired tarot deck. I also did the following:

  • Graphic design and layout of the tarot inspired cards and rules. (illustration by Swathi Sambasivam)

  • Writing and editing of rules, card content, and the Card Compendium.

  • Research on the historical contexts of women and femininity in the Victoria Era and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

  • Materials research and fabrication of tarot cards and the red & blue acrylic filters to change the card images
